Software Radio
Description
The CT Software Radio provides software control over a variety of modulation techniques, wide-band or narrow-band operation, communications security functions (such as hopping), and waveform requirements of current and evolving standards over a broad frequency range.
CT Software Radio-enabled user devices can be dynamically programmed to reconfigure their characteristics for better performance, richer feature sets and advanced new services that provide choices to the end-user and new revenue streams for the industry.
Benefits
The majority of CT Software Radio’s benefits arise from its flexibility. Many changes can be made with software, thus the same board serves multiple requirements, including:
- Implement common modulation protocols or custom high-level protocols with ease. This only requires reconfiguration of software using CT’s proprietary protocol definition language. The system includes custom libraries for parsing, error checking and coding.
- Implement multiple channel bonding for narrow band channels. The bandwidth occupied by your communication channels may be also be altered.
- Deliver a TCP/IP stack optimized for RF. Each device can be assigned a unique IP address.
Also, implement a small, optimized, embedded web server on each device; this enables users to view the device’s status and reconfigure it dynamically and remotely.
Technology
Our proprietary RF controller board implements a low power software radio. The board interfaces to the RF signal at the base band level. All further processing is done in software by programs written on our embedded Radio Operating System (ROS). The board also has on-board peripherals like serial port and I/O ports that can be used to control external devices.
The hardware design is modular, allowing for those changes that require hardware alterations, to be done by swapping a chip or board.
The ROS enables the system to be easily reconfigured, even by casual programmers. Altering modulation, coding, protocol and data processing and control parameters becomes easy with the ROS.
